My Yoga Philosophy

In the winter of 2000, I enrolled in weekly group classes with a Vinyasa Flow teacher. As a new student, I felt vulnerable, unsure of my abilities  and about 50 pounds overweight. The mat soon became a place of exploration of what my capabilities were, spiritually and physically.  With intention and commitment of just one weekly class, I lost 20 pounds within the 8 week session (results not typical).  Yoga not only helped my body become fit, but quelled addictive behaviors that resulted in my chronic weight gain.  In just a few weeks, my mind became clearer.  I noticed increased patience in difficult situations and  mothering my four young children.  Over time, I explored many different lineages of Hatha Yoga; Astanga, Iyengar, Restorative, Kripalu, Kundalini as well as many different forms of meditation. In my discovery I found every style Yoga offers the body/mind health delivered in multi-paths.

The non-competitive nature of Yoga offered a safe place for me to move with ease around others. Yoga allowed  body awareness. My Yoga practice became a complement to  other solo sports I enjoyed  such as hiking, cycling and running.  Similarly, all have the same meditative  component that Yoga shares.  Today even, each time I return to the mat, it offers me a place to learn more about myself.

In May 2006, I left for a residential Yoga Teacher Training School in Western Massachusetts.   Filled with the desire to teach others, I have taken on teaching full time, joyfully. My teaching style is to gently assist others reaching their potential in a Yoga practice in the spirit of Metta (love).
