Welcome to Well Heart Yoga

I hope you will visit the studio at 20 Main St. in lovely Cornish Village, Maine. I offer group or private yoga sessions(Thai Yoga or Iyengar), meditation, self-inquiry and other events and fitness/yoga excursions.

It is my goal to make your yoga practice safe, inspiring, and challenging to your body/mind. You will be gently guided in loving-kindness (Buddhist precept) with a view to expanding self trust in your physical body as well as your intuitive mind.

In the past four years, I've heard these common statements from folks contemplating the possibility of starting in a yoga practice. Lively discussions follow. "I'm embarrassed by my physical limitations.", "I'm not a flexible person.", "I tried yoga before and didn't like it.", "I'm too old.", "I'm too heavy.", "I'm out of shape.", etc.

As the great teacher late Pattabhi Jois (Guruji) would point out," The ego is the greatest obstacle to our progress.  Many times we stop before we start,  for reasons that are based on how we look to others.." In my teaching, yoga will allow you to attain flexibly and breathing techniques that offer the body/mind and opportunity to "let go" of these notions. The result is a flexible, stronger body that can be achieved in a weekly yoga practice.

In a private or group class, yoga is all about you.  It is non-competitive. You will be encouraged to enter a relaxed state of focus and awareness. This is where it starts. In the opening verse of Pantagali's Yoga Sutras, the expression that yoga has to have a very beginning (a beginner). He matter-of-factly states that Yoga is an action word, a verb. (Book 1, Verse 1), "Now the expositions of Yoga is made."

I invite you to explore a yoga practice. This is an exciting place where the body/mind unfolds and progresses in movement.
